The play is framed as one of the main character's memories about his family during the great depression. The family is the main character Tom, his sister Laura, and his mother Amanda. The play follows the family as Amanda tries to set Laura up for the future by finding her a gentleman caller while she is an overbearing and tyrannical parent to both her children but mainly Tom.
The goal for the sound effects was to invoke the feeling of memory. This was achieved by not making everything sound literal and instead look at how the sound emotional affected the main character. An example is a little bit of glass breaking which was made much bigger since it was an important memory. This is also shown through the transitions where lines are blended from different scene showing how Tom the main character is trying to piece together the memory in the right order.
Opening scene after tom fails to get into the house.
My role on the team was to first create the initial cue lists and Qlab file. I also did the sound effects for the opening ambiance plus the transition into the memory and the thunder effects.
Some challenges with this play was balancing working on it with my other classes which all got super busy at around the same time. To overcome this I tried to get as much of my sounds into Qlab as soon as I could so that I wouldn't be too busy to do the best work possible.
Reaper file for thunder. Differnt thunder sounds were mixed together to invoke different emotions like shock or worry
